Akron Children’s Hospital has a long history of caring. From the moment the Mary Day Nursery opened its doors in 1890, we’ve been committed to serving the children of families who live and work in our community. We’ve come a long way from those early days and have grown tremendously, but our belief in providing high quality, compassionate care to children in need has never changed.
Our staff is continually searching for innovative ways to heal the sick and injured, to teach parents, students and health professionals, and to advocate for the well-being of children. We carry that commitment with us wherever we go throughout northeast Ohio and beyond. This Community Benefit Report showcases some of the ways we bring our commitment to life.
In 2010, our community benefit contributions totaled more than $72.5 million in programs and services. In this report, you will read about the positive impact our programs are having on the physical and emotional health of the children we serve. With our community partners, we are working to improve access to healthcare services, educate children and families about how they can lead healthier lives, and address the behavioral, emotional and developmental challenges many families are facing.
To guide our efforts, Akron Children’s Hospital conducted a health needs assessment with some of our community and healthcare partners in 2010. The results of that assessment will inform our decisions as we take the steps necessary to address the most urgent concerns.
Please spend a few moments learning more about the important work Akron Children’s Hospital is doing. Our mission from the beginning has been to care for the children who come through our doors as if they were our own and to turn no child away because of an inability to pay. That mission is more relevant than ever as many families are struggling with economic difficulties.
We thank you for your generous support of our culture of caring, and we promise to continue putting all our energy into building a healthy future for our children.
