Answers come easy with new 3INFO line at Akron Children’s Hospital

Akron Children's Hospital recently implemented 3INFO, a new information line and concierge service for families and visitors at both the main campus in downtown Akron and the Beeghly campus in Boardman.

"Our goal is to provide timely answers to any questions families may have," said Cindy Duncan, supervisor of the Reinberger Family Center, where the 3INFO calls are answered.

Staff members answer 3INFO phone calls 24/7. Questions range from "How do I get to the hospital?" to "Where can I get coffee?" to "Do you have any toothpaste and toothbrushes?" 3INFO volunteers will even make restaurant reservations for callers.

Questions about getting to the hospital and parking account for most of the questions asked since the service began in March. To date, 303 questions have been answered.

"We realize that when parents bring their child to the hospital, their focus is on getting the best possible care for their loved one," said Duncan. "We hope that by having answers to all of their questions just a phone call away, we are able to – in some small way – ease the stress and anxiety that they may be feeling."

The information line can connect patient families to doctors' offices, offer them directions to the pharmacy or help them find a place for a nap or shower.

To reach 3INFO, hospital visitors may dial "34636" from any hospital phone, or 330-543-4636 from an outside phone. Callers will be asked to dial 911 for medical emergencies.

Patient information requests will continue to be answered by the hospital operators by dialing "0" from any hospital phone, or 330-543-1000 from an outside phone. Experienced pediatric nurses answer health information calls 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Ask Children's, 330-543-2000.
