Akron Children’s accepting volunteers for Doggie Brigade

A member of the Doggie Brigade

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley is now accepting applications for its Doggie Brigade. These four-legged volunteers tour the hallways, visit patients in their rooms and stop in the activity rooms to see children who are well enough to be out of bed.

Applicants must be able to attend both the Delta Workshop and New Dog Screening.

Delta Workshop:
Saturday, Feb. 25, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Akron Children’s Hospital
Considine Auditorium
215 W. Bowery St.
Akron, OH

New Dog Screening:
Saturday, March 31, 9 a.m.
Akron Children’s Hospital
Considine Auditorium
215 W. Bowery St.
Akron, OH

A one- time fee of $50 is required prior to the workshop to ensure a seat. This covers the cost of the educational materials and workshop fees.

All dogs undergo a veterinary exam and a behavioral screening process to ensure their suitability for the program. Once accepted into the Brigade, dog and owner as a team earn volunteer credit for their weekly or biweekly visits to the hospital.
