During an indoor soccer game, Demi was running, pivoted to kick the ball and felt a slight pop in her left knee. Not realizing her knee was injured, she continued to play for the next eight months with little to no pain. But her knee soon started hurting more and more after each practice, and her high school trainer insisted she have an MRI. The MRI confirmed her worst fear a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), one of the four major ligaments of the knee that helps control forward motion and rotation. She needed surgery to repair it and made a visit to the Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Akron Children's Hospital.
