Staged Correction of Congenital Ear Anomalies

Aural atresia (absence of an ear canal) and microtia (an underdeveloped exterior ear) are birth defects that affect approximately one in 6,000 babies each year. It is not known what causes of these birth defects, which are more common in boys. In this surgical webcast, Ananth Murthy, MD, director of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Akron Children's Hospital, uses a series of procedures to build an ear for child affected by these birth defects.
